Hair and Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking soda

SHAMPOOING    From MindBody

In a bowl or cup combine- Baking Soda wash
1-2T baking soda
1/4c water

Pour on hair and mostly work it into the whole scalp.  It feels a little sandy , slightly abrasive, and weird.  But also good, b/c it is scraping off the dead skin. Not what your used to with the foaming action of shampoo.

CONDITIONING    from- Coconuts

ACV hair rinse and condition
In a bowl or cup combine-
2-4 tbsp raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar
16 oz water
Add a 7 drops of lavender essential oil

I poured this on my head and my hair actually felt more tangily and stringy in the shower.  I thought this isn't gona work for me. I let it sit for 1-2min, then rinsed it out. I wrapped my head in a towel and got dressed.  Then my kids came home and started the do the school ritual (papers, books, teachers dirty looks).  After 10min or so with my hair in the towel and the whirl wind of kid-ness calmed down, I took the towel off and brushed through my hair.  There definitely were some tangles but were brushed away.  My hair does feel clean and surprisingly soft.  I'm impressed.

Details-
Apparently ACV- exfoliates the scalp and hair, removal of dead skin cells and build up that can occur from sweat and/or conventional hair products. This improves the appearance of the hair, reduces itchiness, and allows for better styling.
Apple cider vinegar can bring relief because of its anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties. In addition to being antimicrobial – apple cider vinegar is also anti-inflammatory, which can counteract the skin inflammation that typically occurs with dandruff and a dry, flaky scalp.

Pressure cooker canner

I am not suppose to use my presto cooker for a canner, but I wanted to try it and if it didn't work then I'd just freeze the beans instead.

I did soak black beans overnite
Rinsed out the water and put new water in
Fill up canner with hot water and put stove on medium heat
Scoped beans into half pint jar  an inch away from top
Filled jars with hot water  an inch away from top
Wipe of tops of jars and put the lids on,
Then put jars in the canner, the water around the jars was filled to half way up the pot, then put lid on
Turn stove to high
It took probably a half hour for the canner to reach the whistle
Then cook for 1hr and 15min

2 out of the 5 actually sealed.  The 3 that didnt seal had black bean skin on the rim of the jar that stopped it from sealing.

Chicken Taquitos

Our Best Bites
Makes 12 taquitos

Ingredients
1/3 cup (3 oz) cream cheese (low fat is fine, avoid fat free)
1/4 cup green salsa
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic, or garlic powder
3 Tablespoon chopped cilantro
2 Tablespoon sliced green onions
2 C shredded cooked chicken (for extra yumminess, use grilled taco chicken!)
1 C grated pepperjack or plain jack cheese
small flour or corn tortillas
kosher salt
cooking spray or olive oil

Mix the filling- cream cheese, salsa, cumin, chili powder, garlic.  Put everything on the tortillas.  You can either bake them or freeze them.
They’re great in the fridge for a few days and you can bake them up as needed.  Or you can freeze them and bake them straight from the freezer.  It’s totally worth it to make a double batch so you can pop one in the freezer!

Oven 425, spray or use aluminum foil on a large cookie pan to cook the taquitos.   20-25min
Goes well with Creamy Tomatillo Dressing and Spanish rice and Cilantro Lime Dressing

4. Individual Frozen rolls dough for pizza Rhodes

5. Calzones with frozen roll dough- defrost of counter for 2 hours or overnite in fridge, then roll out an individual roll, fill it pretty full with ingredients (otherwise they flatten out after cooking). Put ingredients on one side of the roll, then pull the other side over the top of the ingredients.  Use a beaten egg to seal the two sides of the roll dough together. Push down with a fork on the edge of the dough to seal more. Serve with marinara sauce after it is cooked. Cook  350, 20-25min

Banana, Date, Muffins

From Ronda Dowden- Dr OZ recipe book

Double
       Single
6     3 bananas mashed
2     one 7oz plain yogurt *(B)
2     1 large egg
4     2 T coconut oil
2     1 t vanilla
1/2   1/4c flax
1&1/2   2/3c brown sugar or honey
2      1 c whole wheat flour (C)
2      1 c old fashioned oats *(A)
1      1/2c white flour
1      1/2 c protein powder
4      2 t baking soda
1/2   1/4t salt
3/4c chopped walnuts or almonds, or cashews
3/4c pitted and chopped dates

375 oven. Spray or use paper liners in muffin tins.

Whisk bananas, yogurt, egg, oil, vanilla, flax, and if honey was used.  When I doubled the recipe I put all the liquid ingredients in the blender.
Separate bowl whisk- flour, oats, soda, sugar, baking powder, protein, and salt.
Add banana mixture to flour with a spoon, not a whisk, just until the batter is moistened, but still lumpy.  Add the nuts and dates till combined.
Divide batter among muffin cups.
Bake 18-22 min
Optional-  add chopped apples or dried craisins

My kids loved these.  The batter actually did seem better tasting and texture after the mixture sat in the fridge overnite.

(A) one time I didn't have oats, so I used cereal box that was granola
(B) I only had one 7oz of yogurt, 1/4c applesauce, and I pureed it with 1/2c tofu b/c I didn't have more yogurt
(C) one time I put bran cereal in the place of the whole wheat flour
