THE DAY OF SURGERY
Expect when a person comes out of anesthesia they are a crying emotional mess-
If they arent an emotional basket case, then you will be pleasantly surprised!!
My 17yr old daughter was a such a sad ball of emotions when she came out of the surgery. With An assistant supporting her, they had her walk (10-15 steps) from the surgery room to a recovery area and i thought she was gona fall over, her eyes were voluntarily closed the whole time. She sat down in the chair and couldnt talk b/c her mouth was filled with gauze and she was signing with one hand the letter 'C", which later I understood as cry. So she just was a slight hyperventilating mess with constant tears and sadness for 40min. I said yes you can cry and make sure with your crying you also take slow deep breathes. So That helped her slow down and I could see her body immediately melt when she chose to take intentional slow deep inhales and exhales.
While driving in the car home 30 more min, she was singing and sobbing through her favorite taylor swift songs. By this time i finally became ok with her emotional mess and wasn't so concerned. so that felt better on my part.
I dropped her off at the house, put ice packs on her cheeks gave her tylenol and Ibprofen, then I went quick to smiths pharmacy to get the 800 mg IBProfen, tramaoil, and antiseptic mouth wash. I also picked up a water bottle with a squirting top lid, so water can easily be squirted into her mouth.
Next time-
give her IBprofen and Tylenol b/4 she goes into surgery so hopefully right after the surgery it helps her relax quicker.
The ice pack they gave us wasnt really working for us. Actually s small sandwich bag of frosen peas and cranberries seem to be a better fit for the cheeks. She said ice makes a big difference in helping alleviate the pressure and pain
